Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. claimed just their second Premier League win since December, defeating Brentford F.C. 2-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium, easing pressure on under-fire manager Fabian Hürzeler.

The opening half was lively, with both goalkeepers called into action early. Lewis Dunk reacted quickest to a corner, but Caoimhín Kelleher got behind the effort. Mathias Jensen tested Bart Verbruggen from distance, and Keane Lewis-Potter saw a free-kick comfortably saved.

Brighton grew into the game, dominating possession. Kelleher kept out shots from Jack Hinshelwood and Kaoru Mitoma, while James Milner, making his record 654th Premier League appearance, narrowly missed with a half-volley.

The breakthrough came on the half-hour mark. Ferdi Kadıoğlu’s powerful effort hit the crossbar, leaving Diego Gómez to calmly volley the rebound into the net. Brighton doubled their lead before halftime when Nathan Collins, coming on for the injured Aaron Hickey, miscontrolled a ball, allowing Danny Welbeck to score.

Brentford had chances to respond, with Vitaly Janelt firing over twice and Sepp van den Berg heading wide from a corner. Igor Thiago missed their clearest opportunity, shooting off target when through on goal.

In the second half, Brentford pushed forward, with Collins nearly redeeming himself with a close-range header. Pascal Groß then had a chance to seal the game, but Kelleher produced a strong save. A late set-piece from Thiago found Dango Ouattara, who could only direct an acrobatic effort over the bar.

The 2-0 defeat deals a blow to Brentford’s European ambitions and raises concerns over their home form, having won just once in their last five home games (D2, L2). Meanwhile, Brighton secure their first Premier League away win since November, easing fears of relegation and giving Hurzeler a vital morale boost.
