The race for the BOV Challenge League title has been blown wide open following a dramatic Saturday of football. With the top four teams now separated by a mere three points, the battle for promotion and the championship trophy is reaching a fever pitch in the Top 8 section.

Swieqi United 2-1 Balzan

In the weekend’s standout fixture, Swieqi United produced a resilient performance to hand league leaders Balzan a rare defeat. The Owls started brightly and deservedly took the lead in the 33rd minute when Isaac Davey found space in the box to slot home.

Balzan rallied in the second half and looked to have salvaged a point when the experienced Samir Arab leveled the scores in the 71st minute. However, the drama wasn’t over. With just five minutes of regulation time remaining, Swieqi were awarded a penalty. Zak Barbara stepped up under immense pressure and coolly converted from the spot in the 85th minute to secure a massive three points for the Orange.
