BOV Challenge League: Birzebbuga defeat Melita to move back in second place

Swieqi United left it till late to beat Sirens 2-0 in a match from the BOV Challenge League Top 8 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Sunday to join Melita in third place.
Michael Micallef put Swieqi ahead on 85 minutes and Zak Barbara doubled the score on 90 minutes.
At the Centenary Stadium, Fgura United beat St. Andrews 2-0 thanks to goals by Timilehin Caleb Akande on 62 minutes and Karl Formosa on 83 minutes.
Birzebbuga St. Peter’s moved back in second place in the BOV Challenge League Top 8 as they came from behind to beat Melita 2-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
Gareth Barone put Melita ahead on 31 minutes but Alex Bruno equalised nine minutes in the second half and Randall Vella notched the winner five minutes from time.
On the other hand, leaders Balzan defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium. James Scicluna put the Hotspurs ahead on 44 minutes. Samir Arab doubled the score on 61 minutes and Oluwatobiloba Dimeji Awosanya converted a penalty on 70 minutes with Arthur Stelmach reducing the gap for the Hotspurs on the 90th.
In the Top 8, Balzan lead the way with 38 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 37, Melita and Swieqi 35, Sirens 29, Fgura and St. Andrews 26, Pieta’ 24.
In the Bottom 6, Zebbug Rangers defeated Mtarfa 6-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Olalekan Qudus Opajobi put Zebbug ahead on 2 minutes and four minutes later, Nathan Sultana doubled the score. Dylan Agius made it 3-0 on 8 minutes. Opajobi scored again one minute in the second half, Daren Falzon scored a fifth goal on 58 minutes and Shedrack Tegwi Thomas added another seven minutes later.
In the Bottom 6, Mgarr lead with 28 points, followed by Santa Lucia and Gudja on 22, Zurrieq 17, Vittoriosa 16, Zebbug 12, Marsa 9 and Mtarfa -2.
