Borussia Dortmund were prepared to offer Jadon Sancho a late route back to the club during the closing stages of the recent summer transfer window — and the door remains open for a reunion in 2026.

Sancho has struggled to rediscover his best form at Aston Villa since joining the club on loan from Manchester United. The winger is yet to start a Premier League match under Unai Emery, and his future has once again become the subject of discussion, with Dortmund seen as a possible destination to help him revive his career.

A previous loan spell at Chelsea last season also failed to reignite Sancho’s spark, and there is a growing sense within English football that the former England international may need to step away from the Premier League to rebuild his confidence and consistency.

Manchester United still hold Sancho’s contract but are not expected to trigger the extension clause in his current deal, making him a free agent next summer.

Dortmund have long been viewed as the ideal environment for Sancho to flourish. The winger enjoyed his breakthrough years at the Bundesliga club before joining Manchester United in 2021 for a significant transfer fee. He later returned to Dortmund on loan in 2024, impressing once again during his spell.

Sancho’s wages as a free agent could prove a decisive factor in any potential deal, though there is optimism that both parties could find common ground.

Sources close to Borussia Dortmund confirm that senior club figures continue to hold Sancho in high regard and believe his creative, attacking style would once again complement the team’s approach perfectly.
