Borussia Dortmund drop points as Bodo/Glimt twice come from behind to earn draw

Though their hopes of progressing in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) are now all but over, FK Bodø/Glimt gave Borussia Dortmund a genuine scare at Westfalenstadion, coming from behind twice to secure a 2-2 draw against the 1997 trophy winners.
Dortmund, who had scored exactly four goals in four of their previous five group-stage matches, began the game on top as expected, but the early exchanges were far from straightforward.
Julian Brandt’s header over the bar was soon overshadowed as Glimt threatened to take the lead twice through Kasper Høgh. The first chance was denied one-on-one by Gregor Kobel, while the Swiss goalkeeper tipped Høgh’s next effort onto the near post with a brilliant save.
As is often the case for underdogs at Westfalenstadion, Glimt were punished for their missed opportunities. Fabio Silva broke away and found Brandt on his left, and the midfielder lifted the ball into the net despite Nikita Haikin’s best efforts.
Dortmund continued to press, with Jobe Bellingham and Silva both going close, but Glimt struck just before half-time. Patrick Berg’s short-corner cross found Haitam Aleesami, who nodded the ball through Kobel’s legs to level the score.
The away supporters were buoyant at the start of the second half, but Dortmund regained the lead within six minutes. Maximilian Beier’s diving header was parried by Haikin only for Brandt to arrive on the rebound and tap in.
Aaron Anselmino then came close for Glimt, his header denied by Haikin’s sharp reflexes as Dortmund looked to seal the win. However, the Norwegian goalkeeper proved decisive once more in the 75th minute. Håkon Evjen surged into the box and slid the ball to Jens Petter Hauge, who calmly finished into the far corner to make it 2-2.
In the final stages, Dortmund pushed for a winner but were lucky to escape as Kobel kept out Daniel Svensson’s attempted own goal.
The draw leaves Dortmund outside the top eight in the group, meaning they will likely need victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan to progress directly to the last 16. Meanwhile, despite their spirited display, Glimt’s point is unlikely to be enough to keep their qualification hopes alive. They will now focus on making history by becoming the first Norwegian side to win a UCL group-stage match since 2007/08.
