Malta Mountain Bike Association hosted an exciting second round of the Cisk 0.0 Cross Country Series at Majjistral Park on Saturday, with Luke Borg producing a dominant performance to take victory.

Borg led from the start and maintained a comfortable advantage over opening-round winner Clyve Chetcuti, who finished second despite a strong challenge. The battle for third saw Mark Bonnici and Etienne Bonello go head-to-head, but a fall by Bonnici in the second lap allowed Bonello to secure the final podium position.

The result sets up a thrilling finale in the Men’s Elite category, with Chetcuti holding a narrow lead over Borg ahead of the deciding third round.

In the women’s race, Diana Muscat claimed a convincing win, finishing ahead of Fiona Tedesco and Michelle Mifsud.

The Sport Category also delivered strong competition despite a couple of riders being forced to retire with punctures. Josmar Vella emerged victorious, with Roderick Borg and Andrew Curmi finishing second and third respectively. Vella now shares the overall lead with Keith Bartolo.

One of the closest finishes of the day came in the 40+ category, where Jamie Camilleri edged out Alex Portelli after a tight battle, with Gordon Zahra completing the podium. Camilleri’s win sees him draw level with Zahra in the standings.

In the 50+ category, Stephen Grima claimed victory ahead of Ramon Grech and Domenic Cutajar, who continues to lead overall.

Among the younger riders, Xavier Vicente Gaspar won the U19 Boys race, ahead of Ryan Gatt and Andrei Cassone, with Gatt maintaining his overall lead. Neil Cassar was the sole participant in the U17 Boys category, while Katie-Anne Vella Wood secured her second consecutive win in the U17 Girls race ahead of Nina Debono Curmi.

In the junior races, Ethan Cumbo won the U15 Boys event, followed by Zack Saliba and Jake Said. Kim Micallef Cann topped the U15 Girls category ahead of Amy St John. Younger categories also featured Nolan Tabone, Nick Said and Amy Micallef Cann.

The event concluded with a well-attended fun race for young riders, highlighting growing participation in the sport.

The Malta Mountain Bike Association expressed its appreciation to sponsors, including Cisk 0.0, as well as Solar Solutions Ltd, Majjistral Park, and volunteers who supported the event.

The final round of the series will take place on Saturday, May 30, at Miżieb, where the overall winners will be decided.
