Birżebbuġa St Peter’s stumble again in Challenge League

Birżebbuġa St Peter’s suffered a second consecutive setback in the BOV Challenge League after going down 1–0 to Santa Lucia at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
The decisive moment arrived on 79 minutes when Jake Cordina struck to hand Santa Lucia a valuable three points and deepen Birżebbuġa’s recent dip in form. Despite remaining second in the standings, the Saints were unable to find a response late on.
At the Centenary Stadium, Sirens edged past Żurrieq with a narrow 1–0 victory, thanks to an early strike by Thiago Nonato, who found the net after just nine minutes.
In another encounter at the same venue, Żebbuġ Rangers came out on top in a dramatic 2–1 win over St Andrews. Olalekan Qudus Opajobi broke the deadlock on 66 minutes, but Cauã restored parity shortly afterwards from the penalty spot. However, deep into added time, Isaac Joseph Chetcuti struck the winner to seal maximum points for Żebbuġ.
Fgura United were involved in a six-goal thriller at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, emerging 4–2 winners against Mġarr United. Lee Pisani opened the scoring on 34 minutes before Alan Abdel Rahman doubled the advantage early in the second half. Dylan Caruana added a third on 62 minutes to seemingly put the result beyond doubt.
Mġarr mounted a late fightback through goals from Terence Vella in the 85th minute and Wisdom Osaretin Igiebor in stoppage time, but Abdulbasit Kolawole Shittu sealed the win for Fgura with a fourth goal in the 95th minute.
At the top of the table, Balzan continue to lead the way on 32 points, with Birżebbuġa St Peter’s second on 28. Melita and Sirens follow on 26 points, while Fgura move up to 25. Swieqi sit on 23, with Mġarr and Gudja on 21. St Andrews have 20 points, Santa Lucia and Pietà’ are on 18, Żurrieq 14, Vittoriosa 11, Żebbuġ 8, Marsa 7 and Mtarfa remain bottom on -2 points.
