Everton claimed their first home win of the Premier League season against a side starting the round in the top half, easing to a 3-0 victory over Chelsea and dealing another blow to the Blues’ top-four ambitions.

In the early stages of his tenure, Liam Rosenior is already under growing pressure due to an inconsistent run of results.

His side were nearly punished early on when Robert Sánchez was caught hesitating on the ball inside his own box, allowing Beto to pounce, though the goalkeeper recovered just in time to prevent a certain goal.

Everton felt they should have gone ahead moments later when James Garner—fresh from an England call-up—struck a low effort toward the bottom corner, only for Malo Gusto to clear it off the line.

Everton struck a fully deserved opener just after the half-hour mark, further damaging the mood of Liam Rosenior.

James Garner threaded a perfect pass through to Beto, who got ahead of Robert Sánchez and calmly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper into the bottom corner.

Everton then had Jordan Pickford to thank for preserving their lead going into half-time, as he produced a superb reaction save to deny Enzo Fernández from close range after the midfielder reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box.

Displeased with his side’s performance, the Chelsea boss made an attacking change at the interval and followed it up with another substitution within 15 minutes of the restart in an attempt to spark a response.

Enzo Fernández went close to pulling one back when his curling effort forced a save, but things quickly worsened for the visitors.

A rapid counter-attack from Everton ended with Idrissa Gueye finding Beto inside the box, and the striker struck first time, with the shot squeezing through Robert Sánchez and over the line.

Beto remained central to Everton’s attacking threat and was also involved in the third goal, winning a header that released Iliman Ndiaye in behind the defence.

The forward drove inside and unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner to complete a dominant display for Everton under David Moyes, moving them to within two points of sixth-placed Chelsea as their push for European qualification gathers pace.

Things are looking increasingly grim for Chelsea, whose midweek exit from the UEFA Champions League was followed by another damaging setback in their bid for a top-four finish.
