Luis Díaz experienced the full spectrum of emotions as Bayern Munich defeated Paris Saint-Germain 2–1 in the UEFA Champions League, scoring twice before being sent off. The result not only preserved Bayern’s flawless record this season but also denied PSG their longest-ever winning streak in the competition.

The visitors struck early at the Parc des Princes, breaking the deadlock just four minutes in. A quick transition saw Michael Olise’s initial shot parried into Díaz’s path, and the Colombian made no mistake, squeezing his effort past Marquinhos and into the net.

PSG, slow to settle, almost found themselves further behind when Bradley Barcola’s misplaced pass allowed Aleksandar Pavlović to shoot — his deflected strike whistling just wide. Luis Enrique’s men thought they had equalised midway through the first half when Ousmane Dembélé chested home from close range, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts moments later as Dembélé limped off injured, and Barcola then squandered a golden chance when one-on-one with Manuel Neuer. Bayern nearly capitalised immediately, with Serge Gnabry seeing his effort hit both posts, before Díaz punished Marquinhos again — dispossessing the defender and drilling home via the woodwork to double the lead.

The first half ended on a sour note for the winger, however, as Díaz was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Achraf Hakimi, who was forced off injured.

With a man advantage, PSG pressed hard after the break. Bayern slowed the tempo, drawing a booking for Neuer for time-wasting as they tried to manage the game. The hosts created chances — Barcola misfiring from Nuno Mendes’ cross, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia seeing an effort comfortably saved — but lacked precision in the final third.

Their persistence eventually paid off in the 74th minute when João Neves ghosted into the box to convert Lee Kang-in’s teasing cross, setting up a tense finale. PSG pushed relentlessly, with Neves and Lee both coming agonisingly close to equalising, while Neuer produced a crucial save to deny Warren Zaïre-Emery.

Despite the late pressure, Bayern’s defence — marshalled by Jonathan Tah — stood firm to see out the win.

The victory extends Bayern Munich’s perfect start to 16 straight wins across all competitions and puts them top of the Champions League table. PSG’s eight-game unbeaten run, meanwhile, comes to an end in front of their frustrated home supporters.
