Hansi Flick has committed his future to Barcelona after the Spanish champions confirmed the coach has signed a new two-year contract extension, which also includes the option of a further year.

“In just two seasons at FC Barcelona, Flick has already secured his place in the club’s history through titles, records and a clear vision for the future,” the Catalan club said in an official statement.

Flick had already indicated last week that he intended to remain in charge at Barcelona. Although his previous deal still ran until 2027, the coach said after securing the league title early that he felt he was “in the right place” and remained focused on winning the Champions League with the Blaugrana.

Reports in Spain have suggested that Barcelona president Joan Laporta would like Flick to stay at the club until the end of his presidency in 2031. However, the German coach is understood to favour shorter-term contracts.

Flick took charge of Barcelona in 2024 and has since guided the club to two league titles, as well as a domestic cup triumph last season. In this year’s Champions League campaign, Barcelona’s run came to an end in the quarter-finals against Atlético Madrid.

“The German coach has created a competitive side that stays faithful to the club’s identity, dominates domestically and is capable of returning Barcelona to the top level of European football,” the club said in a statement.

“With this contract extension, FC Barcelona guarantees continuity for both the coach and the project.”
