Mexico will welcome Portugal on March 28 for a friendly match that will officially reopen the newly renovated Azteca Stadium — now rebranded as Mexico City Stadium — as the venue gears up to host games at the 2026 World Cup.

Three days later, Mexico will continue its preparations with another high-profile friendly, this time against Belgium at Soldier Field in Chicago, the Mexican Football Federation announced on Tuesday.

The country’s national stadium has undergone major modernization works, featuring upgraded seating, improved hospitality areas, and enhanced media facilities. With its latest transformation, the Azteca becomes the first stadium in history to host matches at three different World Cups, having previously been a stage for the 1970 and 1986 editions.

The legendary venue is scheduled to host five matches during the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly staged by Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The expanded 48-team World Cup is set to begin on June 11.
