The battle for promotion intensified this weekend as league leaders Attard capitalized on a high-stakes stalemate between their closest rivals, Qormi and Mqabba, to extend their lead at the summit of the standings.

Qormi 2-2 Mqabba: High-Octane Thriller Ends All Square

In a clash between second and third, Mqabba stormed out of the gates at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. After Christian Degabriele grazed the post in the opening minutes, Niel Magri broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, bundling the ball home during a goalmouth scramble.

Mqabba doubled their lead in the 28th minute through a powerful close-range strike from Brandon Micallef. Facing a mountain to climb, Qormi found a lifeline just before the break when Innocent John Iwori stabbed the ball home following a sustained period of pressure.

The “Canaries” dominated the second half, missing several gilt-edged chances before finally finding the equalizer in the 79th minute. Substitute Jayden Zac Borg rose highest to meet a cross with an excellent header, ensuring both sides earned a point in a fair reflection of the contest.

Attard 2-1 Mellieħa: Leaders March On

Attard took full advantage of the points dropped by the chasing pack, though they were made to work for it by a struggling Mellieħa side. After a quiet opening half-hour, Nick Ghio broke the resistance in the 35th minute with a clinical header.

The leaders doubled their advantage in the 68th minute when Uchechukwu Precious Nwankwo finished off a fine team move. A late penalty converted by Leon Borg provided a consolation for Mellieħa, but Attard held firm to move three points clear at the top.
