Atlético Madrid nearly reclaimed the lead just before the hour mark, when Giuliano Simeone latched onto a close-range volley but sent his effort over the crossbar.

As the match moved into its final phase, both teams pushed relentlessly for a decisive goal in what had become an intense and physical battle. Substitute Antoine Griezmann produced a moment of brilliance, spinning away from his marker and unleashing a powerful shot, only for Yann Sommer to deny him with a superb save.

It seemed the match was destined to finish level — until the third minute of stoppage time. From a late corner, José María Giménez rose highest and powered home a thunderous header, sparking wild celebrations around the stadium and delivering a dramatic last-gasp winner for Diego Simeone’s side.

The victory lifts Atlético to 12th place and preserves their flawless home record in this season’s Champions League. Inter, meanwhile, drop to fourth following the defeat, with a home clash against Liverpool awaiting them next in European competition.
