Atalanta overtake Bologna in Europe chase as Krstović hits form

Atalanta continued their strong run of form by claiming a 2-0 victory over Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, recording their eighth win in the last 10 Serie A matches.
La Dea had bounced back from a 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan at the end of 2025 with a narrow win over Roma to start the new year, and they carried that momentum into this contest. From the outset, Atalanta looked sharper and more determined than a Bologna side that entered the match winless in five league games.
The opening half was short on clear-cut chances, though Ederson went closest early on with an inventive effort from close range inside the first five minutes. Atalanta consistently found promising positions but initially lacked the final pass to turn pressure into opportunities.
That changed midway through the half. After Honest Ahanor headed over from a Nicolás Zalewski corner, Atalanta soon made their dominance count. Charles De Ketelaere played a key role, threading a perfectly weighted pass into Nikola Krstović, who calmly swept the ball home from eight yards to score his first Serie A goal since September.
Bologna struggled to respond before the break, with Nicolò Cambiaghi’s off-target effort on the counter their only notable attempt in a disappointing first half.
The hosts showed greater intent after the restart, and substitute Jonathan Rowe forced Atalanta’s first save of the match just two minutes into the second half. However, any hopes of a comeback were dealt a blow around the hour mark when Krstović struck again.
The Montenegro international latched onto a Marten de Roon header, shifted the ball onto his left foot and finished confidently past Federico Ravaglia to double Atalanta’s lead.
With the visitors firmly in control, De Ketelaere went close to adding a third soon after, only to be denied by Ravaglia. Bologna enjoyed more possession as they searched for a response, but they were unable to turn control into meaningful chances.
Atalanta saw out the match comfortably to leapfrog Bologna into seventh place. For the Rossoblù, it was another frustrating afternoon, as they suffered a second consecutive defeat to Atalanta and remain without a point in 2026 — a stark contrast to the early-season run that saw them go 12 matches unbeaten in all competitions.
