Atalanta extended their unbeaten start to 2026 in Serie A with a sixth win in eight matches, easing to a 2-0 victory away at Lazio, who have now managed just one win from their last seven home league outings.

With only three of Atalanta’s previous 12 matches seeing both teams score, the opening goal carried added significance. The visitors should have found it inside the opening 15 minutes when Lorenzo Bernasconi beat the advancing Ivan Provedel to a ball over the top and squared for Nikola Krstovic, but Oliver Provstgaard recovered superbly to divert the goal-bound effort over the bar.

That let-off appeared to galvanise the hosts. Lazio’s first clear opportunity arrived moments later as Kenneth Taylor attempted an acrobatic finish that was comfortably gathered by Marco Carnesecchi. The Dutch midfielder went even closer before the half-hour mark when Daniel Maldini — on loan from Atalanta — held up play neatly in the box and teed him up, only for Taylor’s strike to crash against the post.

As the half wore on, clear chances became scarce, with both sides restricted largely to long-range efforts. However, just as the interval approached, the deadlock was broken. A Davide Zappacosta cross struck the arm of Danilo Cataldi, and after a lengthy VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot. Ederson stepped up and coolly sent Provedel the wrong way to register his first league goal of the season.

The second half began with controversy at the other end when Zappacosta was penalised for handball while attempting to halt Nuno Tavares. Following another extended check, the decision was overturned as Tavares had strayed offside in the build-up.

Carnesecchi then preserved Atalanta’s advantage with a sharp reaction save to tip away a flicked Tijjani Noslin header. Any lingering belief of a Lazio comeback was extinguished just before the hour mark when Nicola Zalewski collected possession on the turn and bent a superb 20-yard effort beyond Provedel into the bottom corner.

Maurizio Sarri’s men had taken just one point all season from matches in which they conceded first, and there was little sign of a late revival. Maldini fired over, a free-kick was pushed away by Carnesecchi, and Petar Ratkov’s stoppage-time header struck the post as frustration mounted for the hosts.

It marked another assured away display in this fixture for La Dea, who have now lost just once in their last nine league visits to Lazio. Meanwhile, the Biancocelesti’s three-match unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end as their inconsistent home form continued to undermine their campaign.
