Assikura Women’s League: Mġarr Extend perfect start as Swieqi draw level with Hibernians in second

Mġarr United maintained their flawless start to the Assikura Women’s League season with a 2–1 win over Birkirkara, extending their lead at the top of the standings. Elsewhere, Swieqi United came from behind to defeat Hibernians 2–1, moving level on points with the Paolites in second place. Meanwhile, Valletta and San Ġwann shared the spoils in a goalless draw — earning their first points of the campaign.

Mġarr United continued their impressive early-season form with another confident display, sealing victory through first-half goals from Yanina Méndez and Valeria Villegas. The attacking duo proved clinical once again, putting Mġarr firmly in control before the interval.
Birkirkara, however, showed resilience after the break. Substitute Gabriella Zahra struck just two minutes into the second half to halve the deficit and reignite her team’s hopes. Despite a spirited push from the Stripes, Mġarr’s disciplined back line stood firm to preserve the win and their perfect record.
For the defending champions, the result leaves them nine points adrift of the leaders after four matches — an early setback that will demand a strong response in the coming weeks.
SWIEQI UNITED 2–1 HIBERNIANS

Swieqi United produced a strong comeback to edge Hibernians and climb to second place on nine points. Hibernians made a dream start when Natalee Geren struck in the fourth minute, but Swieqi soon found their rhythm.
Sara Saliba levelled midway through the half, and Salamatu Abdulai completed the turnaround before the break. The Owls managed proceedings well in the second half, frustrating their opponents and sealing a vital victory that keeps them firmly in the title race.
VALLETTA 0–0 SAN ĠWANN

In the final match of the round, Valletta and San Ġwann played out a tense goalless draw. Although both sides created chances, neither managed to find the finishing touch. Still, the result marked an encouraging milestone for both teams, as they collected their first point of the season.
