Arteta Stresses Urgency as Key to Arsenal’s Title Push and Provides Injury Update

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has spoken to the media ahead of his side’s Premier League trip to Burnley, with the Gunners looking to extend their remarkable winning run and strengthen their grip at the top of the table.
Arsenal head into the weekend on the back of an eight-game winning streak, and a victory at Turf Moor would mark their fourth consecutive top-flight win without conceding — something the club last achieved in 2014, when Arteta was still part of the squad.
Team News: Martinelli Still Out, Saliba a Doubt
Providing the latest injury updates, Arteta confirmed that Gabriel Martinelli remains unavailable, while a decision on William Saliba will be made after the team’s final training session.
“(Gabriel) Martinelli is still out,” Arteta said. “(William) Saliba — we’ll have to wait and see because we have another training session this afternoon. The rest are getting closer but not available yet.”
When asked how long Martinelli could be sidelined, Arteta admitted:
“We aren’t sure yet, but I think this game will come too soon.”
The manager also addressed the fitness of Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel Jesus, Noni Madueke, and Kai Havertz, who are all working toward returns.
“I would say weeks — some of them pretty soon, hopefully, if they keep evolving the way they are. After the international break, I think we’ll have some of them back. I don’t know if it will be all of them or just a few, but we’ll be close by then.”
“Keep the Urgency”: Arteta’s Message to His Players
Arteta urged his side to maintain their intensity after Arsenal set an English football record in midweek — becoming the first top-flight team ever to play six matches in a single month without conceding a goal.
“(Keep) the foot on the gas and maintain the level of urgency,” he said. “Keep the concentration, the focus, and the ambition we are showing in every game. Every match brings different challenges — sometimes we have to be patient, other times take a different approach.
“It’s a big opportunity ahead of us, but we have to keep that consistency. We know how difficult that is. Tomorrow will be an extremely tough match, and we’ll have to hit those performance levels again.”
Respect for Burnley and Scott Parker
Arteta was full of praise for Burnley and their manager Scott Parker, whose side sit five points clear of the relegation zone after an encouraging start to the campaign.
“It’s going to be really tough,” Arteta said. “They are well coached. What he has done with the club is formidable. When you look at their last five games, they’re a very difficult team to beat.”
No Room for Complacency
Asked whether Arsenal feel “unstoppable” at the moment — particularly as they have never lost a Premier League match at Turf Moor — Arteta dismissed any sense of complacency.
“No, because you always have that sense of urgency,” he replied. “We see the challenges every opponent brings. Every three days we have little time to train and prepare, so everyone must stay sharp.
“I see everybody on their toes, ready for the next game and accepting the challenge. If we do what we have to do, we have a big opportunity to win again.”
On Staying Calm in the Title Race
Arteta was also asked how he manages to stay composed on the touchline during such an intense title race.
“I think it’s the years — the trust and confidence you have in your team and the work you do,” he reflected. “Getting feedback from people close to you helps.
“I want my team to be active, creative, and disciplined — and if you want that, you can’t just stand and watch. That’s how I live the game, and I want the players to live it with that same body language. There’s always room to improve.”
