Arsenal Keep Up Title Charge While Promoted Sides Impress in the Premier League

Premier League Talking Points: Arsenal Strengthen Title Grip as Promoted Trio Continue to Impress
Arsenal tightened their hold on the Premier League title race this weekend, edging past Crystal Palace to extend their advantage at the top as rivals Liverpool and Manchester City both suffered damaging defeats.
City remain inside the top five, just ahead of Manchester United, who climbed above Liverpool thanks to a 4-2 win over Brighton — their third consecutive league victory. Meanwhile, newly promoted Sunderland stunned Chelsea to move fourth, while Leeds and Burnley also picked up crucial wins, continuing their remarkable start to life back in the top flight.
Arsenal’s Title to Lose
After three consecutive second-place finishes, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal look increasingly poised to end their 22-year wait for a league title.
The Gunners’ 1-0 win over Palace at the Emirates was a classic example of their blend of resilience and precision. Once again, they leaned on their set-piece prowess, with Eberechi Eze netting his first goal against his former club after Palace failed to clear a Declan Rice free-kick.
Despite not yet finding full attacking fluency, Arsenal’s defensive record has been exceptional. They’ve conceded just three goals in 13 matches across all competitions, keeping a club-record run of clean sheets. The result gives them a six-point cushion over City and a seven-point gap on Liverpool.
“I probably value this victory more than any other this season,” Arteta said after the match.
By contrast, Liverpool’s defensive frailties persist — their 3-2 defeat at Brentford extended their run without a clean sheet to nine games. Manager Arne Slot now faces a daunting run against Aston Villa and Manchester City before the international break.
City’s dependence on Erling Haaland was again exposed in their 1-0 loss to Villa, with no other player having scored more than once in the league this season.
