Liverpool manager Arne Slot accepted full responsibility after his team crashed to a 3–0 defeat against Nottingham Forest — a result that matches the club’s heaviest ever home loss in the Premier League and leaves the reigning champions stranded in 11th place with their title defence in disarray.

Forest, who began the day in the relegation zone, struck through Murillo, Nicolo Savona and Morgan Gibbs-White to hand Liverpool a sixth defeat in seven league outings.

“Another big disappointment,” Slot admitted. “We actually started quite well for the first 30 minutes, but once we conceded the first goal, we couldn’t maintain that level.”

The Dutch coach acknowledged that the adjustments he made during the match failed to change the momentum.

“When things go well or badly, the responsibility is mine,” he said. “We didn’t create enough chances. I tried to tweak a few things, but it didn’t come together, and we couldn’t find a way to score.”

Savona’s goal less than a minute into the second half triggered Liverpool’s collapse.

“Of course it was damaging,” Slot said. “It was already difficult being 1–0 down against a team sitting deep and blocking everything.” Visiting fans taunted the manager with chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

Liverpool’s slump deepens

The defeat means Liverpool have now lost eight of their last 11 matches in all competitions.

Slot urged his players to regroup quickly ahead of a busy stretch. “In a few days we’re back in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven, and then three Premier League games come in quick succession,” he said. “We have to keep our heads up and work incredibly hard. We’re trying every day.”

However, he conceded that experience alone won’t fix their issues. “Having experienced, high-quality players always helps, but at the moment it’s just not coming together.”

Injuries have compounded Liverpool’s problems, with Florian Wirtz and Conor Bradley the latest to join the sidelined group. Meanwhile, several of the club’s high-profile summer arrivals — including record signing Alexander Isak — have struggled to make an impact.

Isak, the most expensive player in league history, started the match but had little influence before being substituted midway through the second half.
