Archie Gray scores first career goal as Tottenham edge past wasteful Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur earned just their second Premier League win in nine matches thanks to Archie Gray’s maiden goal for the club, sealing a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace.
Palace, coming off a four-match winless run (D1, L3) across all competitions, started brightly under Thomas Frank’s guidance, determined to break Tottenham’s resistance. The Eagles threatened early, and in the 17th minute, Richarlison appeared to open the scoring, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside against Lucas Bergvall in the buildup.
Despite that escape, Palace continued to create chances. Jean-Philippe Mateta’s powerful strike went narrowly wide, and he later headed another opportunity over from close range. Justin Devenny and Adam Wharton were also denied by Tottenham keeper Guglielmo Vicario, leaving the hosts frustrated.
Tottenham eventually capitalized on Palace’s profligacy just before halftime. Richarlison’s clever header was met by Gray, who expertly glanced the ball into the net for his first-ever senior goal.
Palace came out firing after the break, with Devenny missing a golden chance from six yards after good build-up play involving Yeremy Pino and Nathaniel Clyne. Maxence Lacroix also failed to convert a close-range header, and despite dominating the final 25 minutes, the Eagles could not break through.
Tottenham thought they had extended their lead in the 75th minute when Richarlison tapped in, but VAR ruled it out for a marginal offside. The closing stages saw end-to-end action, highlighted by substitute Wilson Odobert hitting the post for Tottenham.
Ultimately, Tottenham held on to claim a vital three points, ending 2026 on a high and climbing to 11th in the Premier League.
