Amorim Confident Manchester United Can Take on Any Team Ahead of Key Liverpool Clash

In this weekend’s biggest Premier League fixture, Manchester United travel to Anfield for a high-stakes clash against Liverpool. A win would move United to within just two points of Sunday’s hosts, while a loss for Liverpool would mark their fourth consecutive defeat—a scenario United would surely relish.
Ratcliffe’s Support Boosts Amorim’s Confidence
Amorim addressed whether recent comments from Sir Jim Ratcliffe backing him have helped his confidence amid persistent reports linking him to a potential sacking.
“First of all, I can feel it—it’s not just words. I feel it every day. Sometimes the pressure I put on the team and myself is even bigger. I know it will take time, so it’s really good to hear that,” Amorim said.
He added that it helps fans understand that the club’s leadership is patient, but he stressed the importance of proving themselves on the pitch.
“At the same time, I don’t like the idea that we have time to sort things out. We need to prove ourselves in football. At big clubs, we must be ready to win every week.”
United Can Compete With Any Opponent
Looking ahead to Liverpool, Amorim reflected on their long-standing rivalry, noting that this weekend’s game will mark the 244th meeting between the two sides, with United leading the overall record 91 wins to 82.
“I remember last season’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool. We played well, but it ended in a draw, and I was really upset. We’ve proven that we can compete with any opponent,” Amorim said.
“I know Liverpool are competing for multiple titles. This is another game to show that we are improving and that we need to be better in both boxes. It’s one more game that we need to win.”
Expecting Victory Against Big Clubs
When asked about United’s performances against top-tier teams, Amorim acknowledged that most of their recent wins have come against newly promoted sides or teams down to 10 men.
“Expectations are higher when you have to win. The responsibility to win is harder. At big clubs, you need to win every game,” he explained.
“Sometimes it’s easier for players to perform when they’re not expected to win. We need to change that mindset and be ready to compete at the highest level in every game.”
Goalkeeper Selection: Lammens vs Bayindir
Amorim also discussed goalkeeper Senne Lammens and the possibility of him starting over Altay Bayindir.
“It’s possible; he has to prove himself during the week. The first impression is important, but maintaining the level is even more important. He’s not Peter Schmeichel yet, but he has shown a lot of composure,” Amorim said.
Team News Ahead of Liverpool Clash
Finally, Amorim provided updates on the squad following a busy international break, with some players given extra recovery time.
“Lisandro Martinez is not fit for the Liverpool game but is close to returning to training. I’m unsure about Noussair Mazraoui. The rest of the players from international duty are ready, but some were playing in Japan, so we need to be careful,” he said.
“Diogo Dalot didn’t play in the last game, Bruno Fernandes played 62 minutes, so we need to manage everyone carefully to ensure they are ready.”
