Alcaraz to lead Spain at Davis Cup Finals as Sinner withdraws

World number one Carlos Alcaraz will represent Spain at next month’s Davis Cup Finals, while Jannik Sinner will not feature for defending champions Italy after confirming his absence from the team announced on Monday.
Sinner, ranked world number two, led Italy to their second Davis Cup title last year in Malaga but will not compete when the Final 8 takes place on home soil in Bologna from November 18–23.
“Jannik Sinner has not given his availability for 2025,” said Italian captain Filippo Volandri in a statement. “The Davis Cup is, and will remain, always his home and I am sure that Jannik will soon be part of the team again. In the meantime, I can count on a group ready to fight and give everything for the blue jersey.”
Volandri’s squad for the finals will include Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, Flavio Cobolli, Lorenzo Musetti, and Andrea Vavassori.
Sinner, who has enjoyed a stellar 2025 season — winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon and reaching the final of all four Grand Slam tournaments — will instead focus on defending his ATP Finals title in Turin the week before the Davis Cup begins. Alcaraz has also qualified for the season-ending event.
For Spain, Alcaraz will be joined by Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez, and Marcel Granollers as the team aims to claim their first Davis Cup crown since 2019.
Elsewhere, world number three Alexander Zverev is set to make his debut appearance at the Davis Cup Finals, having been named in the Germany squad.
