Australian Open champion Carlos Alcaraz says winning all four Grand Slam titles by the age of 22 has only strengthened his hunger for success, insisting his historic achievement has not reduced his motivation. However, he is determined not to burden himself with pressure by chasing a calendar-year Grand Slam.

Alcaraz became the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam after defeating Novak Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 under the lights at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday. He now hopes to build on that triumph by reaching the finals of the other majors later this year.

The Spaniard defended his French Open title last season with a dramatic win over Jannik Sinner, before losing his Wimbledon crown to the Italian and reclaiming the upper hand at the US Open for his sixth major trophy.

“It’s going to be a big challenge,” Alcaraz said when asked about winning all four Grand Slams in one year. “Those are big words. I want to take it one at a time. Right now, the next one is the French Open, and I have great memories there. I feel really special every time I go.

“I don’t want to put myself under too much pressure, but I’ll try to be ready, work hard, recover well, and prepare properly for the next Grand Slam.”

Alcaraz added that he remains highly motivated after a turbulent pre-season that included his split from long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

“There are some tournaments I really want to win at least once,” he said. “A few Masters 1000 events. I want to complete all the Masters 1000 titles. The ATP Finals and the Davis Cup are also big goals. I really want to achieve that for Spain.

“I’ve set other targets for the season, and I’ll try to be ready to reach them.”

In the short term, Alcaraz plans to mark his Melbourne Park triumph with another tattoo. He has previously celebrated major victories with body art, including a strawberry for Wimbledon, the Eiffel Tower for the French Open, and the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge for the US Open.

“This one is going to be a kangaroo, for sure,” said the seven-time Grand Slam champion. “It will be on my leg. I just have to choose the right spot, probably close to the French Open or Wimbledon.”
