Lorenzo Pellegrini converted a 74th-minute penalty to secure a 1-1 draw for AS Roma against AC Milan, though the hosts were left frustrated by numerous missed chances, denying them a fourth consecutive Serie A victory.

Donyell Malen, who scored on his Roma debut in last weekend’s win at Torino, aimed to make an impact in front of the home crowd. The Aston Villa loanee came close on several occasions during the first half but was repeatedly denied by Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and narrowly dragged another shot wide.

Maignan was again called into action just before halftime, producing a strong right-hand save to deny Zeki Celik’s instinctive effort, leaving the sides level at the interval. The draw marked the eighth time in 11 Serie A away matches that Milan had gone into the break on equal terms.

Roma’s supporters, buoyed by their team’s first-half performance, feared the game could slip away, and their concern proved justified shortly after the hour mark. AC Milan capitalised on a corner situation, with Luka Modric cleverly creating space for a dangerous delivery. Koni De Winter met the cross with a downward header, giving Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar no chance and putting the Rossoneri ahead with his first Milan goal.

In response, Roma coach José Mourinho made a double substitution, introducing Pellegrini, who was soon presented with a penalty opportunity after Davide Bartesaghi handled the ball in the box. The midfielder kept his composure to fire a precise spot-kick just out of Maignan’s reach, scoring his third league goal of the season and restoring parity.

Despite late efforts from both sides, neither team could find a winner. Roma moved up to third with the point, while AC Milan remain second, five points behind league leaders Inter Milan, extending their unbeaten streak to 21 Serie A matches.
