Lazio extended their dominance over Hellas Verona by claiming a fifth consecutive head-to-head victory, with a late own goal proving decisive in a narrow 1–0 win at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

The visitors controlled possession throughout the first half but struggled to turn that superiority into clear chances after squandering an early opportunity. Four minutes in, Gustav Isaksen pressed aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch before firing a shot that fell kindly for Tijjani Noslin, who headed narrowly over from close range while under pressure from Armel Bella-Kotchap.

Verona remained compact and disciplined, focusing on defensive solidity and looking to break quickly on the counter. However, the hosts lacked cutting edge in the final third and failed to trouble Lazio with any meaningful chances before the interval.

Lazio went close again just before half-time when a free-kick was flicked back into the box for Alessio Romagnoli, but the defender was unable to keep his header down as the sides went in level at the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both teams struggling to generate sustained attacking momentum. Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel was forced into action to deal with a dangerous low cross from Martin Frese, which flashed across the face of goal with Verona players lurking at the far post.

With just over 20 minutes remaining, Maurizio Sarri turned to his bench in search of a spark after Lazio failed to register a shot on target following the restart. The changes nearly paid off when Adam Marusic tested Lorenzo Montipo with a well-struck free-kick, but the Verona goalkeeper produced a fine diving save.

The hosts then passed up the best chance of the match as Antoine Bernede broke down the left, only to ignore supporting runners and roll a weak effort into the side netting.

That miss proved costly. Ten minutes from time, Lazio finally broke the deadlock when Manuel Lazzari’s effort from a tight angle took a cruel deflection off Victor Nelsson, looping over Montipo and into the net to seal all three points.

The victory ends Lazio’s four-game winless run in Serie A and moves them to within six points of the top six. Verona, meanwhile, remain winless in four matches and sit 19th in the table, three points from safety.
