Arsenal and Liverpool played out a goalless draw in the Premier League — the first 0–0 between the sides since August 2015 — bringing the Gunners’ seven-game winning streak across all competitions to an end and underlining that the title race remains far from settled.

The fixture pitted the league leaders against the reigning champions, with Mikel Arteta’s side aiming to tighten their grip at the top after Manchester City dropped points on Wednesday night.

Arsenal began with intent and looked sharp in the opening stages, as Bukayo Saka repeatedly troubled Liverpool down the right flank. The England international cut inside to force Alisson into a low save for the first meaningful effort of the contest.

That early confidence nearly unravelled moments later, though, when William Saliba’s risky backpass wrong-footed David Raya. Conor Bradley pounced and attempted an audacious chip, only to see his effort crash against the crossbar.

Liverpool weathered the early pressure and finished the half strongly, with Milos Kerkez epitomising their defensive resilience by producing an excellent block to deny Saka from close range.

The visitors carried that momentum into the second half. Florian Wirtz almost created the breakthrough with a brilliant solo run into the box, only to see appeals for a penalty waved away after Leandro Trossard stepped across his path.

Arsenal’s difficulties after the restart were compounded just before the hour mark when Piero Hincapié was forced off through injury. Liverpool sensed opportunity and continued to grow in confidence, with Jeremie Frimpong posing problems down the flank against replacement Myles Lewis-Skelly, though the final ball continued to elude him.

Dominik Szoboszlai was central to Liverpool’s second-half resurgence, testing Raya with a series of long-range efforts and knitting play together with sharp passing as Arsenal struggled to match their earlier intensity. The Hungarian came closest when his centrally struck free-kick skimmed the roof of the net.

In the end, neither side could find a breakthrough in a gritty, hard-fought contest that will satisfy Arne Slot and the travelling Liverpool support. The Reds extended their unbeaten run to 10 matches across all competitions (W5, D5) to strengthen their hold on fourth place.

Arsenal had one final chance to snatch victory in stoppage time, but Gabriel headed wide from a last-gasp corner. The draw leaves the Gunners six points clear of Manchester City, with both Pep Guardiola’s side and Aston Villa still firmly within striking distance.
