Gregoritsch rejoins Augsburg after Brøndby stint

German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg have re-signed Austrian international Michael Gregoritsch on a loan deal from Danish top-flight club Brøndby IF until the end of the season, with an option to make the move permanent.
The 31-year-old striker previously represented Augsburg between 2017 and 2022, with a brief loan spell at FC Schalke 04 during that time. Across 129 appearances for the Fuggerstädter, Gregoritsch scored 31 goals and provided eight assists.
After leaving Augsburg, he moved to SC Freiburg, netting 30 goals and registering 12 assists in 107 competitive matches, including eight goals in 15 Europa League appearances. Over his Bundesliga career, Gregoritsch has accumulated 59 goals and 25 assists in 270 games.
On the international stage, Gregoritsch played a pivotal role in Austria’s qualification for their first World Cup since 1998, scoring the decisive goal against Bosnia and Herzegovina in November. He has earned 72 caps for the national team, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists.
Augsburg sporting director Benni Weber commented on the signing: “Michael has proven his qualities not only at FCA but across the Bundesliga. He brings experience, aerial strength, and leadership—qualities that will be invaluable both on and off the pitch, especially in decisive moments of games.”
Gregoritsch expressed excitement at his return: “When the opportunity to come back to Augsburg arose, I was immediately motivated. I’ve always stayed in contact with the club and wanted to take on this challenge. I’m looking forward to seeing familiar faces again and building on the memories from my time under Manuel Baum. Now, we want to move quickly up the table.”
