Mbappé to miss Spanish Super Cup after suffering knee injury
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé will miss this week’s Spanish Super Cup as he continues to recover from a knee sprain.
The Spanish champions confirmed the absence of their leading scorer on Tuesday by omitting the French international from their squad for the tournament in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Mbappé was diagnosed with the injury last week, and a source close to the 27-year-old told AFP that he is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks.
Xabi Alonso’s side face city rivals Atlético Madrid in Thursday’s semi-final, while Barcelona meet Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
Alonso is under mounting pressure following a disappointing start to the campaign, with Real Madrid currently four points behind defending champions Barcelona in La Liga.
