City advance pursuit of Guehi after defensive injuries

Marc Guehi could be at the center of one of the most high-profile moves of the January transfer window, with Manchester City reportedly exploring a move for the Crystal Palace defender.
City’s interest has gained urgency following a defensive injury crisis. Josko Gvardiol is set to undergo surgery and faces an extended spell on the sidelines with a broken shinbone. Ruben Dias also suffered an injury over the weekend, while John Stones continues to struggle with fitness. With the Premier League title race finely poised, Pep Guardiola is assessing the market to strengthen his backline.
Sources suggest Guehi has been on City’s radar for several months, seen as a long-term defensive solution. The England international’s availability and intentions have already been discreetly explored by the club.
Last summer, Liverpool came close to signing Guehi, with a £35 million offer reportedly accepted by Palace. A deal at a similar valuation could still be achievable this month.
Interest in the 25-year-old extends beyond the Premier League. Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are all monitoring the situation, with initial proposals reportedly being prepared. Guehi is open to the prospect of a move abroad and would be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club this month.
City, however, remain confident they can compete for his signature. While a summer transfer had been the original expectation, the current injury crisis could accelerate plans for immediate reinforcements.
Palace may also favour a January sale, preferring to secure a fee now rather than risk losing one of their most valuable assets for free at the end of the season.
Whether Guehi chooses to move immediately remains uncertain. Waiting until the summer could provide greater financial leverage, but the chance to work under Pep Guardiola, compete for a Premier League title, and secure playing time ahead of the World Cup with England makes a January move a compelling option for the defender.
