Napoli delivered a commanding away performance in a fiery Serie A clash, claiming a 2-0 victory over Lazio and moving into second place in the table. The match, which featured three red cards, marked Napoli’s first win over Lazio since a 2-1 triumph in September 2022.

Riding the momentum of three consecutive 2-0 wins, Napoli started strongly, quickly asserting control against a Lazio side that had kept five clean sheets in their previous six home games.

Matteo Politano created the opening goal with a clever run down the right flank, delivering a deep cross to Leonardo Spinazzola. The former Roma man ghosted past defenders to slot the ball through Ivan Provedel’s legs, giving Napoli an early lead.

The visitors doubled their advantage just past the half-hour mark, leaving ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri frustrated with his side’s defending. Centre-back Amir Rrahmani met Politano’s deep free-kick unchallenged and headed the ball calmly past Provedel, scoring his first Serie A goal since December 2024.

Eljif Elmas nearly put the game out of reach before halftime, only for his header to crash against the crossbar, giving Lazio a brief reprieve in a difficult first half at the Stadio Olimpico.

Napoli maintained control after the break, though their intensity dipped slightly. Lazio’s rare attacking efforts were easily contained, and Antonio Conte saw a key attacking player, David Neres, forced off due to injury. His replacement, Pasquale Mazzocchi, delivered a perfect cross that Elmas could only divert wide, keeping the score at 2-0.

The match boiled over in the closing stages, with three red cards adding late drama. Lazio’s Tijjani Noslin was sent off for a second yellow after a reckless foul on Alessandro Buongiorno, before Adam Marusic and Mazzocchi clashed, earning each other straight reds.

Napoli held firm to the final whistle, moving within a point of Serie A leaders AC Milan, while Lazio remain in ninth place.
