Gaspar D’Angis Shines at Marsa as Premier Final Highlights Busy Trotting Weekend

The 37th and 38th race meetings of the year were held at the Marsa racecourse over the weekend, featuring a total of 21 trotting races. Several of these contests were championship finals for French-bred horses over the long distance of 2640 metres, with the standout performance coming in the Premier Class final of the Prix de Vincennes, won in impressive fashion by Gaspar D’Angis, driven by Charles Camilleri.
Premier Final: Gaspar D’Angis Dominates
Eleven horses lined up for the Premier Class final, and as widely expected, Gaspar D’Angis proved the strongest immediately after the start behind the mobile gate. He quickly established a small advantage over Eden de L’Iton (Dylan Baldacchino) and Farmer Keryvon (Rodney Gatt).
Maintaining control throughout the race, Gaspar D’Angis never relinquished the lead and went on to claim his third consecutive victory from as many appearances in Malta. In the closing stages, he comfortably held off the late challenge of Farmer Keryvon. Eldorado De Ver (Noel Baldacchino) finished third, followed by Galago Du Cadran (Paul Galea) and Forban (Cherise Farrugia).
At the end of the race, Anthony Mifsud, Chairman of the Malta Racing Club, together with Matthew Brincat, Chief Executive of Malta Equidrome, presented the prizes to owners Stephen Ciangura and Matthew Fenech, along with driver Charles Camilleri. Notably, Gaspar D’Angis also equalled the national record of 1:12.8 per kilometre, a mark he had already set during the semi-final.
