Nkunku double bursts Verona’s bubble as Milan cruise to victory

Christopher Nkunku scored his first two Serie A goals as AC Milan moved two points clear at the top of the table with a comfortable 3–0 victory over Hellas Verona at the San Siro, extending their unbeaten league run to 15 matches.
The opening exchanges were largely uneventful, with both sides struggling to create clear chances. The first real moment of threat arrived after 20 minutes when Ruben Loftus-Cheek tried his luck from 20 yards, his deflected effort flashing narrowly wide of the post.
It appeared the first half would drift towards a goalless conclusion, but Milan struck in stoppage time with their only shot on target before the break. Luka Modrić delivered a superb corner that Adrien Rabiot flicked on, allowing Christian Pulisic to react sharply and hook the ball home from close range. The goal marked Pulisic’s eighth of the Serie A campaign and gave the Rossoneri a deserved lead.
Milan wasted no time asserting control after the interval. Just one minute into the second half, Christopher Nkunku was brought down inside the penalty area by Victor Nelsson. Nkunku took responsibility from the spot and calmly sent Lorenzo Montipò the wrong way to double the hosts’ advantage and open his league account for the club.
The Frenchman struck again five minutes later to put the result beyond doubt. Modrić’s powerful effort from distance was tipped onto the post by Montipò, but Nkunku was quickest to react, tapping in the rebound from close range.
With Verona’s defence in disarray, Milan threatened to add a fourth. Loftus-Cheek came close shortly after the hour mark, only to be denied by Montipò at his near post. However, the tempo eased in the closing stages as the Rossoneri comfortably saw out the contest in front of a jubilant home crowd.
Milan will begin their 2026 campaign on 2 January with an away trip to Cagliari, while Verona’s defeat brings their two-match winning run to an end. The Gialloblù remain 18th in the table, two points adrift of safety and firmly entrenched in the relegation battle.
