Valletta FC tightened their grip on top spot in the BOV Youth League A after securing a comfortable 3–0 victory over bottom-placed Fgura United on Monday, as Matchday 10 delivered mixed fortunes for the leading contenders.

The league leaders were in control from the opening whistle, carrying their strong run of form into the encounter. Valletta opened the scoring on 24 minutes when Fgura defender Matthias Pullicino inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. Despite dominating possession and territory for the remainder of the first half, the Lilywhites were unable to extend their lead before the break as Fgura improved defensively.

Valletta raised the tempo immediately after the restart and doubled their advantage just three minutes into the second half, with Peter Nnaemeka Ohaka finishing calmly past goalkeeper Zylon Spiteri. The pressure continued, and the leaders made it 3–0 in the 67th minute when Jhoan Estiven Espana Quinones unleashed a powerful effort into the net to seal the points.

The victory saw Valletta move further clear at the top, while Fgura remain rooted to the bottom of the standings, having collected just two points from their opening ten matches.

Valletta’s result was further boosted by defeats for their closest challengers. Melita FC suffered a heavy 4–0 loss to Hibernians FC at the Centenary Stadium, a result that lifted the Paolites up to sixth place in the table.

Hibernians maintain tempo

Hibernians needed just eight minutes to take the lead through captain Lucas Caruana, before Lyon Abela doubled the advantage soon after. The Paolites remained firmly in control and extended their lead on 38 minutes courtesy of Liam Buhagiar, before Denzil Muscat converted a penalty in first-half stoppage time to make it 4–0. Melita tightened up after the break, and despite Hibernians being reduced to ten men following Luke Fenech’s second yellow card on 63 minutes, the Paolites comfortably held on to keep a clean sheet.

Pietà Hotspurs also endured a frustrating evening as defending champions Naxxar Lions emerged 2–0 winners at the Sirens Stadium. Kayne Haber struck early, scoring after just four minutes to give Naxxar the advantage. The match then developed into a tense midfield battle, with Pietà managing to contain the Lions for long spells. However, Haber struck again in the 82nd minute to secure the points and underline Naxxar’s quality.

Elsewhere, St Andrews FC strengthened their position in the top four with a convincing 3–0 win over Swieqi United. The first half was evenly contested, but St Andrews took control after the interval. Benjamin Borg broke the deadlock on 59 minutes, before Adam Vella added a second ten minutes later. Substitute Nathaniel King Cole Pace Vincenti put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time, completing an impressive display from the visitors.

With Matchday 10 completed, Valletta remain firmly in command at the summit, while the race behind them continues to intensify as the league moves into its decisive phase.
