Jack Draper withdraws from Australian Open to prioritise injury recovery

British number one Jack Draper has confirmed he will miss next month’s Australian Open as he continues his recovery from an arm injury.
The world number 10 has not competed since withdrawing from the US Open, where he was diagnosed with bone bruising in his left arm. While progress has been made, Draper has decided not to rush his return at the season’s first Grand Slam.
“It’s a really tough decision,” the 24-year-old said in a video shared on social media. “Australia is a Grand Slam and one of the biggest tournaments in our sport.
“However, I’ve been dealing with this injury for a long time. I’m in the very final stages of the recovery process, but stepping back onto the court for best-of-five-set tennis so soon doesn’t feel like a smart decision for me or my tennis right now.”
Draper’s absence comes after the most successful season of his career, during which he claimed his first Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells and broke into the world’s top 10 for the first time.
