Napoli defeat Bologna to claim Italian Super Cup as David Neres scores twice

David Neres scored twice as SSC Napoli claimed the Supercoppa Italiana for the third time in their history with a 2–0 victory over Bologna at the King Saud University Stadium in Saudi Arabia.
Fresh from defeating holders AC Milan in the semi-final four days earlier, Napoli arrived full of confidence despite recent losses to Benfica and Udinese. The Partenopei carried that momentum into the final and were the superior side throughout the first half.
Napoli nearly took an early lead inside 10 minutes when Scott McTominay slipped a precise pass through to Eljif Elmas in the penalty area. With time and space on his side, the midfielder failed to capitalise, dragging his effort wide of the left post when clean through on goal.
That miss proved inconsequential as Neres broke the deadlock six minutes before the interval. The Brazilian surged forward from distance and unleashed a superb left-footed strike from around 25 yards that sailed over Federico Ravaglia and into the top-left corner.
The goal continued a remarkable trend for Neres, who has now opened the scoring in each of his last four goalscoring appearances. For Bologna, it was another familiar setback, conceding first for the seventh consecutive match.
Despite a subdued first-half display, Bologna knew they remained within reach of the contest. However, their hopes were dented early in the second period through a costly defensive error.
Attempting to play out from the back, Ravaglia’s pass to Jhon Lucumí left the defender under pressure. Neres pounced, dispossessing Lucumí before calmly lifting the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to make it 2–0 just 12 minutes after the restart.
It marked only the fifth time in Napoli’s last 14 matches that they had scored more than once within 90 minutes, but it was more than enough to seal the trophy.
Bologna pushed to find a way back, yet Napoli remained composed and defensively disciplined, seeing out the match with confidence. Having lost their previous two Supercoppa finals without scoring, the Neapolitans ensured history would not repeat itself, rewarding their travelling supporters with silverware in the Middle East.
The victory also added another milestone to Antonio Conte’s illustrious career. The Napoli boss has now lifted the Supercoppa Italiana six times in total—three as a player and three as a manager—further cementing his status as one of Italy’s greatest football figures.
