Burnley’s Premier League survival hopes suffered another major blow as they fell to a 3–2 home defeat against Fulham, a result that extended their losing run to seven matches and left head coach Scott Parker under mounting pressure.

The Clarets were once again exposed from a set piece, having conceded directly from a corner against Newcastle last weekend. History repeated itself inside the opening 10 minutes, as Fulham struck from another corner routine. While Harry Wilson’s delivery did not find the net directly, his low ball caused confusion in the Burnley defence, allowing Emile Smith Rowe the simplest of finishes from close range.

Burnley responded positively and should have drawn level almost immediately. Lesley Ugochukwu burst into the penalty area following the restart but saw his effort blocked by Bernd Leno. The midfielder, signed from Chelsea in the summer, was not to be denied for long. Released through on goal by Josh Cullen, Ugochukwu squeezed a shot past Leno to restore parity.

Any momentum gained was short-lived, however, as Fulham reclaimed the lead from yet another corner. Wilson’s initial delivery was only partially cleared, and the winger recycled possession before picking out an unmarked Calvin Bassey six yards out, who finished calmly to make it 2–1.

With his future potentially hanging in the balance, Parker delivered a crucial half-time team talk, but Burnley failed to capitalise on an early second-half opportunity. A loose pass from Smith Rowe sent Jacob Bruun Larsen clean through on goal, yet Leno reacted sharply to deny him.

That miss proved costly. Moments later, Wilson capped a superb individual display by stepping inside from the right and curling a precise finish into the far corner, giving Fulham a two-goal cushion and silencing Turf Moor.

Parker rang the changes in a desperate attempt to revive his side, but despite the attacking intent of the substitutions, Burnley continued to look blunt and short of ideas. The boos that followed Fulham’s third goal returned in full at the final whistle, underlining the growing unrest among the home supporters.

A late consolation from Oliver Sonne offered little comfort as Burnley slumped to another dispiriting home defeat, leaving Parker’s position appearing increasingly untenable.

Fulham, meanwhile, showed no mercy and departed with all three points, a valuable result that provides them with further breathing space away from the relegation zone.
