Spalletti urges Juventus players to step up following Agnelli’s rejection of club offer

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has welcomed the Agnelli family‘s decision to retain their majority stake in the Serie A club, insisting it is now up to those on the football side to shape a better future.
On Saturday, the family’s holding company, Exor, rejected an all-cash offer from crypto firm Tether to purchase its entire stake in Italy’s most successful club.
“Juve has been part of my family for 102 years,” Exor CEO John Elkann said in a video posted on Juventus’ official website.
“Juve is part of a much larger family, the Bianconeri family, made up of millions of fans in Italy and around the world who love Juve as deeply as they love the people closest to them.
“It is with this passion, with this love story that has united us for over a century, that we continue to support our team and look forward to building a winning future for Juve.”
Juventus last won a Serie A title in 2020, completing their ninth consecutive Scudetto, and have struggled to mount a serious challenge since, falling behind clubs such as Inter, AC Milan, and Napoli.
Spalletti, who joined the club at the end of October, is the fifth manager appointed since that last triumph. Juventus are currently seventh in the standings, eight points adrift of league leaders AC Milan, highlighting the challenge he faces.
“Even though I’ve only been here a short time, I think I can include the whole squad in this conversation,” Spalletti said ahead of Sunday’s game at Bologna.
“It’s gratifying to witness the strength and passion that John Elkann and the family have for this club. It’s now up to us to give substance to that passion, honoring the past while building a future at the same level—or even higher.”
Spalletti’s contract runs until the end of the season, and with the title slipping out of reach, securing a Champions League spot next season is likely the minimum needed for renewal.
Since his arrival, Juventus have won just two of five league matches, sliding further from the summit. However, Spalletti is confident in the squad’s abilities.
“No one will convince me that these players aren’t good. On the contrary, I’m certain we can overcome the current limitations,” he said.
“I accepted this role because I believe in it. I’ve been doing this job for years, and I know it isn’t easy. I’m obsessed with the idea of changing and improving this group.”
Bologna, who Juventus face this weekend, currently sit fifth in the table, just two points ahead of the Turin side.
