Antoine Griezmann scored his fifth LaLiga goal of the season as Atletico Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over a resilient Valencia side, extending their unbeaten home league record at the Estadio Metropolitano and marking six consecutive home wins in this fixture.

Valencia striker Hugo Duro, fresh from a stoppage-time equaliser against Sevilla, went close early on but lifted a promising chance over Jan Oblak’s goal. Atletico responded with pressure of their own, with Alexander Sorloth testing Julen Agirrezabala in the Valencia goal.

The breakthrough came from Atletico captain Koke, who calmly slotted in a rebound after Agirrezabala had parried a Matteo Ruggeri effort, putting the hosts ahead.

Valencia, undeterred, showed character and pressed Atletico, with Pepelu finding the net in the 35th minute. However, the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review, meaning Atletico retained their lead into half-time—a rarity this season at home.

The visitors eventually found the equaliser just after the hour mark through substitute Lucas Beltran. Linking up with Andre Almeida, Beltran showcased quick footwork before firing a fierce strike past Oblak, marking his first LaLiga goal.

Yet, the goal appeared to galvanise Atletico rather than Valencia. Griezmann restored the lead, controlling a lofted pass before sending a left-foot shot past Agirrezabala. Sorloth had a late effort ruled out for offside, but Atletico held on to secure a professional victory, bouncing back from consecutive defeats.

The win keeps Atletico in fourth place while Valencia remain perilously close to the relegation zone, just a point above it.
