Samu Aghehowa struck twice in the opening period to guide Porto to a tight 2–1 win over Sweden’s Malmö FF in the UEFA Europa League, preserving the home side’s perfect record in the league stage and leaving the Allsvenskan outfit still searching for their first victory of the campaign.

Porto, heavy favourites at the Estádio do Dragão, wasted little time asserting themselves. Martim Fernandes forced Robin Olsen into an early stop, the first of several the Malmö goalkeeper would be called upon to make in a lively first half.

A rare lapse nearly cost the hosts when Jakub Kiwior’s careless pass from the back gifted Malmö a chance, but the Arsenal loanee recovered swiftly to block Salifou Soumah’s effort. Porto quickly shook off the scare and resumed their control, with Olsen denying Victor Frøholt before producing back-to-back saves to frustrate Borja Sainz and Aghehowa.

The pressure eventually told. Rodrigo Mora, influential throughout the opening half, carved out space on the right and floated a pinpoint cross to the far post, where Aghehowa rose to nod Porto into the lead.

The forward doubled his tally before the interval, cushioning a header from Sainz and dispatching a sharp finish to bring his season total to 13 goals in 20 competitive matches.

After halftime, Francesco Farioli’s side continued to monopolize the ball but lacked the tempo and ruthlessness they had shown earlier. The second period produced little in the way of genuine threat until the 78th minute, when William Gomes’ low strike finally registered a shot on target.

Olsen comfortably handled that attempt and was later required to repel headers from Frøholt and Deniz Gül as Porto pushed for a third. Instead, they were left to lament a late setback when Francisco Moura accidentally bundled the ball into his own net after it rebounded off the post.

Despite the nervy finish, Porto claimed a victory that lifts them into the top eight of the standings. Malmö, meanwhile, remain stuck on a single point in 34th place—six points adrift of the qualification zone with only two matches left to turn their fortunes around.
