MFPA Welcomes postponement and refund of proposed Player License Fee

The Malta Football Players Association (MFPA) has announced significant progress in negotiations regarding the proposed player license fee. Following ongoing discussions, key stakeholders have agreed in principle to postpone the introduction of the fee, a move officially communicated by the Malta Football Association (MFA) in a circular issued today.
The MFPA expressed its appreciation to the MFA for acknowledging the concerns raised by the playing community. By reassessing the proposal and extending the consultation period, the MFA has demonstrated a commitment to good governance and a collaborative approach to Maltese football policy.
Moving forward, the coming months will involve structured dialogue between the MFPA, the MFA, and club representatives. These talks will focus on ensuring that any future initiatives are implemented fairly, managed effectively, and—most importantly—provide tangible benefits to the players while strengthening the domestic football ecosystem.
In a further win for players, the MFPA welcomed the MFA’s decision to refund those who have already paid the license fee, ensuring no individual is financially disadvantaged during this period.
Important Notice for Players:
The MFPA advises all players who have not yet paid the fee to refrain from making any payments until further notice.
The association remains committed to working alongside the MFA and local clubs to find a solution that prioritizes player welfare, development, and rights at the heart of the sport.
