Thuram expects fierce response from Liverpool ahead of Champions League meeting

Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram says his team are ready for another big Champions League night, while warning that struggling Liverpool could still prove a dangerous opponent.
Liverpool arrive in Milan amid a turbulent run of form — sitting ninth in the Premier League with only four wins from their last 15 games — and with tension rising after Mohamed Salah publicly criticised the club. The Egyptian, who has netted 48 Champions League goals in his career, has been omitted from Arne Slot’s squad for the trip to San Siro following his outburst after Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Leeds.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s clash, Thuram cautioned against underestimating the Premier League side.
“A true champion, when doubts start to surface, wants to prove what they’re really capable of,”
the French striker told reporters.
“Everyone may think this is the ideal moment to face Liverpool — but maybe it isn’t,” he added, pointing to the threat posed by a team with top-level talent despite their current position of 13th in the league-phase standings.
Thuram stressed Inter’s strong recent pedigree in the competition.
“Inter have rarely slipped up in the Champions League over these last few seasons. Since I arrived here, we’ve won big games. In matches of this level, anything can happen — but it’s true that in some of the biggest matches this season, we’ve been missing something.”
Inter reached last season’s final but were thrashed 5–0 by Paris Saint-Germain. This term, they sit fourth in the Champions League group phase with 12 points but are coming off a 2–1 defeat away to Atlético Madrid — their first real heavyweight test of the campaign.
Domestically, Simone Inzaghi’s side are second in Serie A, just one point behind Napoli, but four league defeats — three of which came against direct rivals Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan — underline the fine margins they continue to wrestle with.
