Real Madrid stunned at home as tempers flare in shock Celta Vigo defeat

Williot Swedberg struck twice and Celta Vigo produced a superb defensive display to shock Real Madrid with a 2–0 win at the Santiago Bernabéu — their first LaLiga triumph at the venue since 2006.
The night began with concern for Pablo Durán, who slipped awkwardly within 30 seconds, though he recovered quickly enough to record the game’s opening effort, blocked well by Fran García after lively work from Bryan Zaragoza.
Real Madrid eventually threatened from a set play, Ionuț Radu denying a double-header attempt from Éder Militão and Jude Bellingham. But the relief was short-lived for Militão, who was forced off after making a crucial intervention to halt Durán.
Celta stayed organised and stubborn, restricting Madrid to pot-shots as Bellingham and Antonio Rüdiger each fired harmlessly off target. Arda Güler finally tested Radu with a low drive from distance, before spurning a huge chance when fine link-up from Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé presented him with a clear sight of goal — only for the Turk to guide the ball wide.
Durán continued to trouble Madrid with his movement, drawing another save at the opposite end, while Vinícius saw a sharp effort parried after finally finding space behind the Celta defence.
Just after half-time, Radu was called into action again, beating away a thunderous strike from Federico Valverde. Yet it was Celta who delivered the breakthrough on 54 minutes. With Zaragoza isolated on the flank, teammates gradually joined the attack and he threaded the ball into Swedberg — the half-time substitute producing a delightful back-heel flick to beat Thibaut Courtois.
Madrid’s problems deepened shortly after the hour when Fran García collected two quick yellow cards for needless challenges, leaving the hosts a man down. They responded with urgency, but Vinícius was twice denied: once by a block, once by inches as a curled strike grazed past the post.
The pressure kept coming. Mbappé lofted a delicate effort onto the roof of the net, while Aurélien Tchouaméni and Gonzalo García both headed off target as frustration mounted.
Celta, however, refused to yield — and sealed the upset in the dying moments. Swedberg latched on to a late break, rounded Courtois and slid in his second to secure a fourth straight LaLiga away win for Os Celestes and end Madrid’s eight-game unbeaten run in the league.
The result leaves Real Madrid — who also finished with nine men after Álvaro Carreras’ late dismissal — four points adrift of Barcelona at the top, and with just two wins from their last seven matches in all competitions, pressure continues to grow on Xabi Alonso.
