The eighth edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games, set to be hosted in Malta in 2027, has been officially launched during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held in Glasgow, Scotland today.

Following the official signing agreement in Malta last July, delegates from all 74 Commonwealth Sport Associations gathered in Glasgow for the cornerstone event held every two years to hear about the upcoming Games.

Games Details

Outgoing Secretary General of Commonwealth Sport Malta, Kevin Azzopardi, extended an official invitation to all nations and territories. He delivered a presentation outlining the latest details regarding the sports and venues .

The six sports that will be held in Malta are athletics (including para-athletics), swimming (including para-swimming), sailing, squash, water polo, and weightlifting [1.1]. Netball and triathlon events will be held in Gozo.

It is anticipated that over 1,000 athletes and 600 coaches and officials will participate in the Games, which will be hosted between October 29th and November 4th, 2027. This will be followed by the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly two days later.

A Lasting Legacy

At the close of the presentation, Commonwealth Sport President Dr. Donald Rukare presented the quaich—the event’s iconic symbol—to Commonwealth Sport Malta President, Julian Pace Bonello.

Pace Bonello concluded: “This moment symbolises far more than the start of our preparations. It embodies Malta’s commitment to empowering young athletes and celebrating the values of friendship, inclusion, and fair play that define the Commonwealth. In 2027, we will open our doors to the world and create a Games that leaves a lasting legacy for our youth and our country.”
