Historic night for Ħamrun Spartans as first ever Group Stage win secured

Ħamrun Spartans celebrated a historic milestone on Thursday evening as they registered their first-ever goals and victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage, coming from behind to defeat Lincoln Red Imps 3–1 at home.

The match sparked into life in the second half, with Lincoln Red Imps opening the scoring in the 57th minute through Lopes, who finished off a swift attacking move to silence the home crowd. However, the momentum shifted shortly after when Lincoln were reduced to ten men in the 63rd minute, as Torilla received his second yellow card of the night.
Ħamrun capitalised immediately on the numerical advantage, equalising just two minutes later thanks to El Fanis, who calmly slotted home to bring the Spartans level and reignite the stadium.

Fifteen minutes from time, the comeback was complete. Smajlagić found space in the box and fired in a composed finish to put Ħamrun 2–1 ahead, sending the supporters into raptures. The drama wasn’t over, though five minutes later Ħamrun were themselves reduced to ten men when Polito was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card.
Despite the setback, Ħamrun remained in control and sealed the historic victory in stoppage time. Substitute Coric latched onto a loose ball and hammered home Ħamrun’s third goal, securing a memorable 3–1 win and the club’s first-ever points in a European group stage.
It was a night to remember for the Maltese champions, who not only made history but also demonstrated remarkable resilience and character to turn the match around in front of their home supporters.
