Manchester City are reportedly ready to compete with Arsenal if a transfer battle emerges for Rodrigo Mendoza, the 20-year-old midfield talent from Elche.

Sources indicate that Arsenal have already conducted initial checks on Mendoza, viewing him as a potential long-term addition to their squad. The Premier League leaders are keen to strengthen for the future, and while recent windows have focused on players who can make an immediate impact, Mendoza represents a prospect who could develop into a pivotal figure over time.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is reportedly well aware of Mendoza’s qualities and supportive of any move, but competition is expected to be fierce.

Insiders close to Manchester City reveal that the Etihad club have admired Mendoza for some time, compiling extensive scouting reports over the year. Their recruitment team has recommended him as a future signing, meaning any approach from Arsenal could spark a direct challenge from City. Earlier this year, City also outpaced Arsenal to secure Norwegian midfielder Sverre Nypan, 18, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough.

Mendoza, a Spanish youth international, has also been linked with Real Madrid and reportedly has a release clause of around €20 million. Known for his technical ability, composure in tight spaces, and capacity to quickly transition play forward, he has impressed in LaLiga despite his young age.

With both City and Arsenal closely monitoring his progress, a transfer approach could materialize by the end of the season, potentially setting up a high-profile battle for the promising midfielder.
