Bayern Munich rally from behind to rout Freiburg in eight-goal spectacle

Bayern Munich staged a stunning comeback from two goals down to crush Freiburg 6–2 at the Allianz Arena, maintaining their remarkable record of never losing at home to the Breisgau-Brasilianer in 26 Bundesliga meetings.
The opening stages were subdued inside the stadium, but the away contingent burst into celebrations in the 12th minute. Freiburg, who had shown intent from kick-off, struck first when Jan-Niklas Beste whipped in a low corner. Matthias Ginter’s clever flick redirected the ball perfectly for Yuito Suzuki, who finished clinically to give the visitors an early lead.
Bayern were rocked again just five minutes later, once more from a Beste set piece. This time, Johan Manzambi rose highest to guide a header beyond Manuel Neuer, doubling Freiburg’s advantage and stunning the home supporters.
The champions, however, responded with immediate urgency. Lennart Karl first sent a header over the bar but redeemed himself moments later, controlling a fizzed pass from Michael Olise before smashing the ball past Noah Atubolu to halve the deficit.
Julian Schuster’s side continued to pose a threat on the break, with Suzuki narrowly missing from distance, but Bayern were growing in dominance as the half wore on. Their pressure finally told in stoppage time, when Karl teed up Olise, who unleashed a powerful strike that Atubolu got hands to but couldn’t keep out.
Karl thought he had completed the turnaround shortly after the restart, but VAR ruled out the goal due to Josip Stanisic straying offside in the buildup. Bayern didn’t have to wait long, though. From an Olise corner, Dayot Upamecano swept home a precise finish to put the hosts ahead for the first time.
By the hour mark, Bayern were in full flow. Harry Kane pounced on a fortunate bounce inside the box, blasting beyond Atubolu to extend the lead. Luis Díaz almost added another with a dazzling solo run, but his effort drifted agonisingly wide.
There was concern when Karl was forced off injured, but his replacement, Nicolas Jackson, made an immediate impact. Seven minutes after coming on, he calmly finished a flowing move orchestrated once again by the outstanding Olise.
Olise then crowned his brilliant performance with a spectacular goal, cutting inside and curling a sublime effort out of Atubolu’s reach to round off Bayern’s emphatic victory.
The win marked a stylish return to form for Bayern after a draw before the international break, giving them their 17th victory in 18 matches across all competitions this season. Freiburg, meanwhile, suffered only their second defeat in their last 14 competitive outings.
