BOV Amateur League II: Kalkara maintain perfect Start as Gharghur and Mdina earn crucial Wins

Kalkara United extended their flawless start to the BOV Amateur League II season, recording their fourth consecutive victory with a 2–1 win over Siġġiewi at the Centenary Stadium on Friday evening.
Kalkara made an explosive start, taking the lead after just two minutes through Miguel Perez Jimenez, who finished confidently from close range. The league leaders doubled their advantage three minutes into the second half when Ryan Sammut found the net to make it 2–0.
Siġġiewi fought back and reduced the deficit on 66 minutes through Tyrone Grech, but Kalkara held firm to preserve their perfect record and remain top of the table with 12 points from four matches.
Rabat Ajax Defeat Ta’ Xbiex to Stay in Touch
In another fixture, Rabat Ajax continued their strong run with a 2–0 victory over Ta’ Xbiex.
After a goalless first half, Rabat broke the deadlock on 70 minutes thanks to Victor Ifeanyi Mbata, who calmly slotted home following a well-worked move. Deep into added time, Edward Falzon sealed the win with a precise finish to ensure Rabat stayed within striking distance of the leaders.
Għargħur Edge Santa Venera in Basement Clash
At the other end of the table, Għargħur earned their first win of the season, narrowly defeating Santa Venera Lightnings 1–0 in a tense encounter.
It took just two minutes for Għargħur to find the breakthrough, as Aaron Doda struck a superb effort that left goalkeeper Samuele Duzzi helpless.
Għargħur continued to create chances, with Jake Agius and Antonello Demanuele both going close before half-time. Max Kirkbride nearly doubled the lead midway through the second half, but Duzzi pulled off an excellent save to keep Santa Venera in contention.
The Lightnings pushed for an equaliser, with Zak Francica’s acrobatic effort forcing a save from Gianluca Pisani, but Għargħur held on for a deserved victory that saw them leapfrog Santa Venera in the standings.
Mdina Knights Triumph Over St George’s
In the day’s other match, Mdina Knights claimed a hard-fought 1–0 win against St George’s at the Luxol Stadium.
St George’s started brightly and came close through Ryan Dalli, but it was Mdina who struck first on 33 minutes when a well-delivered corner was turned in by Miguel Calleja from close range.
The Cospicua side had a golden opportunity to level before the break after being awarded a penalty, but Kurt Zahra saw his effort come back off the post.
Mdina managed the second half well, with goalkeeper Jacob Chircop St John making key saves from Andrea Hammett and Giovanni Galea, as they held on to secure three vital points in their push for promotion.
Ghaxaq and Marsaskala Share the Spoils
At the Sirens Stadium, Ghaxaq and Marsaskala played out a 2–2 draw in a lively contest.
Marsaskala looked in control after goals from Bryon Madu (22’) and Craig Joyce (44’) gave them a two-goal cushion, but Ghaxaq staged a spirited comeback. Neil Brownrigg pulled one back on 53 minutes, and Aaron Agius struck three minutes from time to rescue a valuable point.
