Frank Eager to Face Confident Man Utd as Spurs Aim to End Home Woes

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United four times across all competitions last season, including in the Europa League final, but manager Thomas Frank has warned that Saturday’s Premier League clash promises a much sterner test.
A win for either side in the lunchtime kick-off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would temporarily lift them into second place in the table—a remarkable turnaround for teams that finished 17th and 15th respectively last season.
Frank has overseen a solid start since replacing Ange Postecoglou, though Spurs have lost three domestic home league games. United, meanwhile, are showing signs of recovery under Ruben Amorim after a dismal start to life at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese coach, who joined from Sporting a year ago, oversaw United’s worst-ever Premier League finish last season, and the club struggled at the start of the current campaign. But four wins in their last six matches have earned Amorim Premier League Manager of the Month honors for October.
“It is a United team with more confidence. Ruben and his coaching staff have done a good job,” Frank said. “It has obviously been a tough year for them, so I admire him a lot for navigating such a tricky spell with many setbacks. They are at a point where every key player is available. We know exactly what to expect—they have an incredibly dangerous front three.”
Spurs thrashed FC Copenhagen 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday, yet they remain without a Premier League home win since the opening-day victory over Burnley. Their most recent home outing, a 1-0 loss to Chelsea, saw Tottenham fail to register any real attacking threat.
“It is a big shirt to wear,” Frank said of his side’s home struggles. “You should be proud and excited to play in this shirt, whether at home or anywhere. I understand that the stats are not ideal over a long period. For me, it is a new opportunity to embrace fully.”
New Dutch signing Xavi Simons has yet to make a major impact in the league, though he impressed against Copenhagen, and Frank believes the midfielder still has plenty to offer.
“Every player needs confidence, even the best in the world. Moving to a new club isn’t always easy, and it takes time to hit the ground running,” Frank said.
Tottenham will also hope that forward Mohammed Kudus, arguably their standout player this season, will be fit after missing the Copenhagen win due to a minor training injury.
“He’s touch-and-go for tomorrow,” Frank confirmed.
