Manchester United are taking their time over a decision on Casemiro’s next contract. The Brazilian midfielder has been in strong form this season, but his deal at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the campaign.

Currently the squad’s highest earner, it is unlikely United would extend his contract on the same terms. While they may still consider keeping him, any new offer is expected to be lower, and Casemiro will be weighing up alternative options.

United are pleased with the partnership he has developed with Bruno Fernandes, with the pair benefiting from a lighter schedule due to the club’s absence from European competitions, allowing for more recovery time between games. Casemiro, 33, has started eight of the Red Devils’ 10 Premier League matches so far this season.

Looking ahead, United are planning a gradual midfield overhaul that would eventually see both Casemiro and Fernandes phased out. The club aims to sign two new midfielders in 2026, with discussions potentially starting in January, though it is not yet clear if their targets will be attainable by then.

While conversations with Casemiro about staying at the club are likely, sources suggest United will wait to see how their transfer plans develop before finalizing his future.

Harry Maguire is in a comparable situation, with his contract also running down. However, he is expected to sign an extension on reduced terms, and his case is currently viewed as a higher priority. United also plan to bring in a centre-back during the summer, while retaining Maguire’s leadership as the squad continues to evolve.
