Guardiola full of praise for Haaland following two-goal display against Bournemouth

Erling Haaland struck twice to take his Premier League tally to 13 goals this season as Manchester City cruised to a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth, delivering a performance that drew admiration from both his manager and his opponents.
City boss Pep Guardiola was full of praise for the Norwegian striker, particularly for his opening goal — a blistering solo run from the halfway line finished with typical precision.
“It’s the first goal — the way he kicked the ball down the grass. It’s like, ‘I’m going to score this.’ That determination,” Guardiola said, recalling the moment with clear delight. The manager later embraced Haaland as they left the pitch together.
When asked if Haaland could be compared to all-time greats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Guardiola didn’t hesitate.
“Did you see the numbers of that guy? Oh my God, of course,” he replied. “The difference is that Cristiano and Messi have been doing it for 15 years more than him.”
Beyond his goalscoring exploits, Guardiola highlighted Haaland’s mentality and willingness to improve.
“I’m tough sometimes with him. I tell him to do this or that better, and he’s always open-minded,” said the City boss. “Some players react like, ‘What are you talking about?’ but he’s completely grounded. Without him, it would be tough, to be honest. We’re so blessed to have such an incredible person — the sweetest and kindest. And he’ll keep improving. His numbers are just outstanding.”
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola admitted Haaland’s presence makes life exceptionally difficult for any defence.
“It’s very difficult to play against him,” Iraola said after seeing his side’s nine-match unbeaten run end. “He’s amazing. When you press high and leave space behind, he’s super fast — impossible to stop.”
“The big man up top — Haaland — is always going to be a threat,” Brooks said. “It’s almost impossible to prepare for him. He’s six foot five, strong, and a massive danger when the ball falls to him. He took his chances brilliantly.”
